More times to follow…..

In the Tarmac Championship category of the rally Garry Jennings` chances took a fair leap forward over the first stage this morning when his closest pursuer Derek McGarrity spun at a junction and lost half a minute. Garry also had a problem in that his Subaru hand brake mechanism seems to be jamming on. Derek reported that he was heading for a wall on a square right junction, going just too fast, and spun the car so as not to have an accident. Donagh Kelly had a smooth run to hold 3rd place. Stephen Wright lost his Group N lead when a turbo pipe came adrift on his Lancer and he lost around 3m. When Josh Moffett passed the struggling Wright car he then backed off.

In the Rally NI there was a major incident on that opening stage when John McCrone crashed his Citroen. John had been 4th overnight. The stage was stopped following the accident and latest reports are that both John and his co driver Phil Pugh are shaken but basically unhurt. Overnight Rally NI leader Osian Pryce was 12s faster than Jukka Korhonen through that stage with Jon Armstrong a further 16s back. Jon reckons that the fast stages do not suit his car., Both Alistair Fisher and Tom Cave will re-join the rally this morning under Rally 2.

In the Ulster National Rally the overnight leader was Frank Kelly/Russell Harrold in their Escort from Derek McGeehan (|Mini WRC). Paddy McVeigh 3rd. Shane McGirr 4th and Killarney man Fergus O`Meara 5th 20s up on Chris Armstrong in 6th. Local man Jonny Leonard was 7th in his Lancer. The National category was running behind the other events and encountered a hail storm on their final stage last night.

In the Ulster Challenge Rally young Scottish driver Ross Hunter won Leg 1 from Dean Rafferty with Richard Sykes 3rd. The Challenge starts with a clean sheet this morning as this is a double bumper weekend for them.

Gareth James led the Historic Rally overnight from Ryan Barrett with Wesley Patterson 3rd, Richard Hill 4th, Rob Smith 5th and Ernie Graham 6th.
