There were no major changes at the top of the leaderboard for either the 4 wheel drive cars or two wheel drives on stage 3 Kilcoran. Having said that Phillip Morrow did extend his lead in the 4wd and Shane McGirr had his 2wd advantage reduced. On the 12.2km test Phillip Morrow was fastest on 7.47. Owen Murphy 7.51 and Mick O1Brien 7.59. Morrow reported no problems but he is still trying to eke out his supply of tyres and he joked, although perhaps it was not a joke. `If only I had the tyres that we put to one side when we were sponsored by Pirelli I| would be a happy man`. Phillip went on to say that he really needs two new tyres right now and he has been putting off the moment of purchase! Mick O1Brien was worried about his Focus WRC transmission after SS2. He said after that last stage. `The car seems OK now but we messed up a few hairpins.`

Owen Murphy reported a good run but also told what seems to be a tall story. But at the same time he is sincere when he said that he has at last solved a year long mystery about why he does not go round left hand corners as fast as right hand corners. He feels that with left foot braking when he moves the steering wheel round to the left his hand is catching his leg. He said it is the penalty for being very tall. (We said it was a bit of a tall story….)

Further stories from the 4 wd include: Sam Moffett lost a few seconds when his Lancer brake pedal started to go to the floor in SS3. He reckons there could be a damaged brake pipe. Martin Cairns is gradually upping his pace and told us. `When we won the Pirelli National a couple of weeks ago we thought we were going well. When we come back here it is a reality check as to how quick these guys are going` Of similar sentiment was Liam Regan in the 4wd Peugeot. He had a good run through stage 3 and set a time of 8.17 to lie 9th o/a and said here at service. `We are going reasonably well but guys like Ger Lucey in front are really going hard. Still, to be mixing it with the Moffetts is good!` The total for Josh is 23.34 and 8th o/a. Martin Cairns is on 23.31 and 7th o/a.

In the 2wd category Desi Henry had a great run through Kilcoran, his Citroen stopping the clocks on 8.19 where Shane McGirr had an 8.28. This reduces Shane`s lead to just 3s at this halfway point in the rally. Shane said `We were all over the shop in there, picked too hard a compound tyre`. Desi Henry1s co driver Barry McNulty when asked about their run said. `Yes it was good but we had the odd bit of a slide on here and there`. Mickey Conlon had a decent run to reinforce his 3rd 2wd place and said. `We pushed on a bit alright`. James Coleman dropped close to a minute when his Escort slid wide on a muddy right hander, clipped a stone and punctured a rear tyre. This was about halfway through the stage. Daniel Cronin leads the Juniors but Dean Rafferty is making a big comeback and is only 2s behind. Conor McCarthy is 3rd Junior a further 4s back. Conor is hampered by having the wrong gearbox in his Civic.
