On the 2nd run through Black Hill Darren Gass really settled to the task, his Subaru 17s faster than the first run over the stage. Darren’s closest pursuer Derek McGarrity lost quite a few seconds when his Focus stalled twice. Darren said at stage finish. “The car feels a lot better. We have raised the ride height but haven’t really changed the other suspension settings”. Derek McGarrity was really angry with himself. The first time the car stalled it would not re-start and then when he got it going it stalled again! Derek McGeehan said at stage finish. “That was better but I am still not on the pace I should be”. Paddy McVeigh, running at No.19 in his Impreza WRC, had a great run through the stage to set 2nd fastest time.

A huge battle has developed between David Armstrong and Frank Kelly for Mk2 Escort supremacy. Frank was 0.9 of a second faster than David through that stage 4 and Frank said. “I pushed as hard as I could”. Keith White in the Mk1 Escort clipped a front wheel that knocked his confidence a little. Adrian Hetherington is a bit disappointed to be quite a few seconds shy of Kelly and Armstrong. George Robinson continues to lose time, his Lancer still with no anti lag system and he was pushing hard which led to a spin at a hairpin. Ray Brammer clipped a rear left wheel on his Impreza but lost little time.

Stanley Ballantine reported that the tar is starting to melt on the roads which is making for difficult going. Stanley was well down the order, 27th after SS3, but still 3rd in group N. Damien Toner was 2nd in GpN in his Lancer and Rory Byrne now leads the category in his new Mitsubishi.

Stage 4 was stopped briefly when Jim Feenan in the Formula Karting Escort WRC was due through. We have had no word as yet if Jim is still going. Andy Johnson/Jim McSherry have retired the Chevette after a noise came into the engine in stage 2. Paddy Milligan has retired his Manta having nipped a half shaft on a tight hairpin. Stephen Armstrong has lost 3rd and 4th gears and is hoping to change the gearbox in his Escort. Andrew Simms had a good run through stage 3 and really enjoyed which is hardly surprising as that is where he lives with his wife Barbara who produces the lovely Ballydougherty ice cream! We could certainly do with some of it here…..the sunshine is great but it would be lovely to have some ice cream!
