RALLY NEWS NO.4 End of stage 4/Saturday

UNOFFICIAL LEADERBOARD AFTER STAGE 4 GLANDORE 2

2nd (5) Owen Murphy/Anthony Nestor (Lancer N) 36.48.0
3rd (2) Brian O`Mahony/John Higgins (Impreza WRC) 36.48.6
4th (1) Daragh O`Riordan/Tony McDaid (Fiesta WRC) 37.08.9
5th (8) John Joe Fleming/Robbie Ward (Focus WRC) 37.12.8
6th (14) Adrian Hetherington/Gary Nolan (Escort) 37.46.1
7th (6) Frank Kelly/Liam Brennan (Escort) 37.56.0
8th (12) Ed O`Callaghan/Raymond Scott (Escort) 38.19.8
9th (4) John Dalton/Gwynfor Jones (Darrian) 38.31.8
10th (9) John Cope/Alistair Wylie (Impreza WRC) 38.36.5

Fastest through stage 4 was Denis Cronin with Brian O`Mahony just 2s down. Third fastest was Owen Murphy and 4th fastest Daragh O`Riordan. That seems to be the pattern at the moment. At the stage finish between Ross Carbery and Leap Denis Cronin said that he had lost a few seconds with a stall at a hairpin. Brian O`Mahony felt his Impreza was going a lot better. Owen Murphy was in a bit of a panic as the left rear corner of his Lancer was smashed in and he recounted sliding wide on a long fast right hander with a puddle of water at the end. Daragh O`Riordan`s co-driver Tony McDaid said he felt that the car was a lot better, that they had made a few adjustments to the Fiesta WRC, but there was a lot more to come.

Adrian Hetherington was fastest of the Escorts. John Dalton was fastest 2 wheel drive but is a fair bit behind Adrian in overall terms and the Darrian driver is taking it a bit easier since his earlier puncture. Frank Kelly set a better time through that one but was still 6s shy of Hetherington and Frank said. `We are trying to drive straighter, keep the car up the gears and learn the new characteristics of the engine`. John Cope was 9th after stage 3 but lost a bit of ground through stage 4 and when asked what the problem was he just said. `Me`. Wesley Patterson is nursing his Escort because of the clutch problem and hopes to change the unit tonight at service. Ed O`Callaghan finished stage 4 with a fair bit of smoke coming from the engine of his Escort, but the car is not over-heating and Ed was only 0.6 of a second slower than Hetherington through the stage. Kevin O`Donoghue seemed to be slightly down on time, 11m10s for the stage as opposed to Hetherington on 10.17. Killarney man Kevin seemed happy enough however.

Liam O`Sullivan made the trip from Australia to compete on his first rally here in West Cork but retired his Civic because of a broken drive shaft. Liam is a first cousin of rally.ie man Brian Duggan! Leonard Downey leads Cl13 in his Escort and is 11th o/a and reports no problems. Jason McSweeney leads cl.11F in his Civic.
