First on the road Derek McGarrity who is driving an ex-Mads Ostberg Impreza WRC S14 this weekend reported a big moment on very loose gravel on the opening Carrickaholton stage. McGarrity, who currently leads the Carryduff Forklift NI Championship, said the new car is good. Kenny McKinstry also reported a very big moment on the very loose gravel. Garry Jennings felt the surface was sapping the power of his Impreza 555. Vincent McAree made the same comment in relation to his Lancer. Mark Donnelly was in a ditch for 4 or 5s and counted himself fortunate that his Lancer was undamaged.

Martin Cairns was fastest and felt there is more to come. Ian Cochrane bent the steering on his Lancer and John Cairns damaged the rear suspension on his similar example. Josh Moffett’s Lancer stopped at stage start with broken suspension. Frank Kelly met a wild horse in the stage just after a square left corner and Frank eventually gunned his Escort past the rampaging equine. It transpired that there has been a search going on all week for this horse. It was supposedly secured so maybe there have been two wild horses. Viv Hamill was slowed by marshals who had got a hint of the horse. Adrian Hetherington was running behind Frank Kelly and had a clean run. TOC Utilities Seamus O’Connell lost a bit of time. The Omagh MC organisers have wisely decided to halt the stage to see what can be done.
