Shane Maguire and his co-driver Martin McGarrity have scored victory here today on this Sligo Stages Rally. This will be 23 year old Shane’s first National win. The rally did end in difficult circumstances as Trevor & Kenny Bustard were leading after stage 7 by just 10s but then crashed out in stage 8. This was the last thing that Shane or anyone else would have wanted. The two crews were having the most marvellous battle throughout the day and were separated by just seconds on every stage. Shane Maguire/Martin McGarrity were also the highest placed GpN crew. Arthur & Mac Kierans had a great run to finish best Escort crew.

The final stage 9 did not run as all available resources were directed to the stage 8 incident. The latest news on Trevor & Kenny Bustard is that they have been taken by ambulance to Sligo Hospital and their injuries are not life threatening.

Finally for now we would like to thank everyone who supported and helped with our RallyNews service. Congratulations and our thanks to CoC Paul Kiely and all the enthusiastic and helpful Connacht Motor Club team, as well as the volunteers from all over the country who work so hard to make the rally possible. Thanks also to Dougie Hughes, Angus Sealy and Aiden Harper. BRIAN & LIZ PATTERSON www.rallynews.net
