On stage 6 of this Topaz International Rally Cork man Darragh O’Riordan set a scorching time 5s up on rally leader Garry Jennings. Jennings still leads overall by just over 12s as the cars get refettled here at Buncrana service before heading to the spectator stage through the streets of the seaside town. O’Riordan said he wasn’t too happy through stages 4 and 5 as a bit of a moment upset his flow, but then on stage 6 everything seemed to click. Garry Jennings reported a small problem with his Subaru launch control that cost a few seconds on the start line of stage 6. Seamus Leonard set some brilliant times through the earlier stages but wasn’t quite so fast on stage 6 and told us that the roads on that Mouldy Hill test are just too fast for his older model car and he really needs the technical type stages. Darren Gass is shown well down the results as a consequence of a road penalty reportedly for a late arrival into stage 4. Sam Moffett managed to hold on to his GpN lead despite a worry over his Lancer’s power steering. Stanley Ballantine crashed his Lancer heavily on an earlier stage today. Crew reported to be OK. Aaron MacHale has a problem with the launch control on his Focus WRC.

David Bogie was leading the National Rally after stage 5 but there is no sign of his Metro 6R4 at service after SS6. Unconfirmed reports are that the Metro suffered a broken wheel in 6 then slid off the road at the flying finish. Declan Boyle has now regained the lead of the National although he looked slightly worried when he arrived here at service and reported a slight misfire in his Escort. Manus Kelly made a cautious start to the day but has now speeded up to hold a very solid 2nd place ahead of Scottish visitor Callum Duffy who is going really well.
