On the run over the Tim Healy Pass, stage No10, Daragh O’Riordan clocked another fastest time of 6.37.9. Darren Gass was on 6.41.6. Eugene Donnelly 6.45.5. When O’Riordan brought his Subaru into service at the beautiful Castletownbere harbour he told us. “We’re just trying to keep a good pace and preserve the tyres on these abrasive roads.” Midleton man Daragh went on to say that he would really like a harder compound Pirelli but they are not available here.

Eugene Donnelly is coming under more and more pressure from Darren Gass and remarked. “We made a bit of a rumbly start. The intercom wouldn’t work when we connected up on the start line of Molls Gap, so Paddy had to roar his head off the whole way over the stage. Garry Jennings came to our rescue again at Kenmare and fixed the intercom. There’s no catching that man Daragh now. Maybe if it was raining it would be a different story. I’m just trying to keep in contention with Darren Gass. Ife he gets away its bad news for our Tarmac Championship”. Darren Gass was servicing 40 or 50 yards away from Donnelly and all he said was. “We’re going steady enough, I want to finish this”.

GpN leader Garry Jennings said. “We can’t catch the boys in front so we’re just keeping it steady. There’s a lot of driving to be done now over Ardgroom and Cods Head. We could make time there but I don’t want to push it”. Sam Moffett turned in another good performance on the Tim Healy, less than 5s down on Garry, so the 22 year old is rapidly coming to grips with these Kerry roads. John Joe Fleming is going slightly better today than yesterday and he’s holding a very stead 6th o/a in the International.

In the National category Roy White was o.6 of a second faster than Barry Meade over Tim Healy and Meade said to Roy. “You woke up early this morning”. White remarked. “We are having a good run and I love a race. That’s what its all about”. Fergus O’Meara maintains a very solid 3rd place in the National and reports no problems with his Dairymaster Escort. Joe Connolly is 10th in the National and told us. “We had a real good run over the Gap and I set my personal best record for the stage which at 57 years of age isn’t too bad!” In the Citron Racing Trophy Kieran Daly stays in the lead. He was 2s faster than Carney over Tim Healy but dropped 3s to Kevin O’Connor. Having led early in the rally O’Connor is now 1m38s in arrears of the Citroen lead.

In the Historic rally there is no real change after Molls Gap. Wesley Patterson leads from Todd Falvey with Phillip Wylie 3rd. Alan Courtney has moved into 4th in his Porsche 928 with Declan Jackson 5th and |Brendan McAree 6th in his lovely black Porsche 911. We have no time in for James O’Mahony in the Volvo, he had been lying 4th.
