Barry Meade and his co-driver Liam Moynihan put on a fantastic display on this Banna Beach Resort Kerry Mini Stages Rally to take a very solid victory. Mike Quinn led initially and then Barry surged to the front on the 2nd stage and never looked back. For Mike Quinn and his co-driver Grainne McEnery it was still a special day as they have clinched the Top Part West Coast C/ship. Brian O’Mahony started the day cautiously on intermediate type tyres an then as soon as they moved on to harder rubber they started to set some good times and moved ahead of last year’s winner Alan Ring. For his part Alan said he had a good run today with no problems but his Lancer was just outpaced on the long straights by the Class 14 Escorts as well as the Metro 6R4 of O’Mahony. O’Mahony’s Metro is just back from McKinstry Motorsport having just had the engine overhauled, so obviously it has worked.

Barry Meade commented at the final control. “It is nice to get my first overall win. The car was perfect today.” Second placed Mike Quinn reported. “I am delighted with the result and winning the championship. It will be party time in Banna”. Brian O’Mahony in 3rd said. “We were a bit slow on the 1st stage. It wasn’t so much the tyres as the car was a bit soft on one side. After that it went well”. Last year’s winner Alan Ring told us. “We had a bit of a misfire towards the finish of the last stage but it would have made no difference, the stages were too fast for the car. If it had rained it might have made a difference”.

There was a big race between the Citroens of Desi Henry and Kieran Daly all day and Henry just managed to squeeze ahead on the final stage to win Cl.6 by 6s from Daly. Vincent O’Shea’s Lancer has reportedly stopped on the last stage and Fergus O’Meara’s Escort did not come through SS4.
