Patrick Elliott was a bit dismayed when he reached the end of the fourth stage despite setting a really good time of 6.56 the Cavan building contractor told us “I picked the wrong tyre, too soft, they are going to be absolutely shredded by the time we get to the end of this loop”. Michael Barrable was fastest with a time off 6.46, one second up on rally leader Dessie Keenan. Glenn Allen was third fastest on a 6.50, Niall Maguire 6.53, Sean Devine 6.54, Noel Redmond and Ray Breen both on 6.55. Aaron MacHale retired his Focus WRC on a square right corner, all the following drivers reckoned that the car had broken down, Aaron off course suffering major clutch problems over the opening leg of stages. Kevin Barrett got a puncture in his Triton Impreza WRC loosing almost thirty seconds to the leaders, Niall Maguire finishing the stage right on his tail.
Glenn Allen has got back into the grove and reckoned he had a real aggressive run at that fourth stage and went on to tell us about his stage two time loss was “I had a bit of a moment in the second stage and just lost a little bit of confidence, and off course here the competition is so close you cannot afford to loose anything”. Rally leader Dessie Keenan extended his lead to ten seconds after the fourth stage, Dessie openly enjoying himself in his first run in a McKinstry Impreza WRC. Ray Breen was quite a bit faster over the repeat of stage one and admits to going better now.
Michael Curran was 22 seconds faster over the Emy stage than his first run to extend his lead in GpN. Alan Ring feels the clutch is going on his Impreza while Seamus Leonard just laughed at the stage finish and told us “I can get no more from this wee car”. Gary McPhillips is flying in his Mk2 and now into the top ten and leading 2wd from Rodney Wilton. Maurice Moffett just shook his head when he saw McPhillips’s time for stage four and he lies just off the leaderboard on a total of 31.51. Other totals include Kevin Kelleher on 31.47and Alan Ring on 31.59. More News Later Michael Patterson & Zoe Todd
