Patrick Elliott was fastest through stage 4 by 7s from Glenn Allen to leave Cavan man Patrick with a 17s lead over Aaron MacHale.  Aaron struggled through that 4th stage as there was something not quite right with his Focus WRC’s steering rack or pump.  Elliott asked his engineers to stiffen up the suspension at last service, reckons the car is a whole lot better now but is going to ask them to soften it off just a tad.  Noel Redmond said his Impreza felt really good through that stage 4 but he is going to ask his engineers to make his suspension just a little harder.

Glenn Allen told us he is a lot more comfortable with his Corolla now and said it is amazing just how much difference a click here or a click there on the suspension by engineer Derek McGeehan can make to the car.  Niall Maguire had a good run through stage 4 while Kevin Barrett dropped a few seconds, his Impreza brakes now shuddering badly.  Kevin got the engineers to change the discs and pads at last service but it seems to have made the job worse rather than better.

In Group N Michael Curran has extended his lead, he was a few seconds faster than Seamus Leonard and Alan Ring through stage 4.  Other drivers in the gpN picture include Kevin Kelleher, although Kevin lost a few seconds on stage 4 when he had a big moment over gravel near the start of the stage.  While Willie Fannin, Gabriel Martin and Ian Barrett are just separated by a few seconds and lying behind the main group. Donegal man Manus Kelly is also right in the GpN picture although he lost a few seconds in stage 2 with an overshoot.  Eamonn Daly is normally right in the gpN hunt but he has crashed his Lancer in stage 4 and indeed caused Jack Sleator a very big moment when Jack came over a crest a full belt in his Subaru to discover Daly’s Lancer on its roof in the middle of the road in front of him.  The following cars did not get a time for stage 4 either.  This means in effect that Mike Quinn is still 13th o/a and best 2 wheel drive with Brian O’Mahony 14th in his Clio. Wesley Patterson 15th. Anthony O’Halloran 16th.

Unfortunately due to a serious road accident outside Castleisland, stage 3 has had to be cancelled and stages 5 and 6 are also going to be cancelled.
