Melvyn Evans was fastest through stage 11 while Michael
Barrable was far and away quickest through stage 12. Donal O’Donovan
is holding a very steady station in 2nd place, and happy
enough with the way things are going. Rally leader Evans remarked
that in stage 11 he drove steadily, kept it tidy, didn’t try any
heroics and was surprised at how good his time was, a couple of
seconds faster than his first run through this morning.
Michael Barrable said he felt a lot happier in the car and
it was going well, co driver Dermot O’Gorman joking “By Tuesday
night we might be leading!”. Donal O’Donovan did comment that his
Celica tyres went off the boil halfway through stage 12 and the car
was sliding around a bit, but overall he was happy with the car.
John Dalton had a couple of big moments in stages 11 and 12,
he also said he tyres went off and that contributed to losing 1
place on the leaderboard. George Cullen is still having a problem
with his Impreza 5th gear and also survived a sin in
stage 11. Jon Ingram had a 3rd fastest time through
stage 12, Jon a lot happier with his car, he has stiffened up the
suspension and also his Focus has had the brakes sorted, although
Jon, on his first visit to West Cork, is pretty stunned at the speed
of the rally, and said it reminds him of “wacky races!” Mark Morgan
is a very steady 2nd group N and 8th overall.
Gwyndaf Evans had a stall at the hairpin in stage 11 which
cost him a few seconds, but otherwise having a good run and is more
or less resigned to settling into position and defending his Class
13 lead. Wesley Patterson is 2nd cl.13, Wesley’s Escort
suffering 2nd gear trouble and also had an overshoot in
stage 12. Kieran O’Callaghan is 3rd in group N and 10th
overall but his Lancer has no active centre diff and he is losing
time at the hairpins.
Nigel Hicklin was 9th overall this morning but
his Corolla has disappeared in stage 12 – we think his Corolla WRC
has gear change problems. Tadgh Linehan currently holds 12th
overall in his GpN Impreza. Washington James is 13th in
his Darrian. Then it is Kevin O’Donoghue (Escort). Peter Lloyd
(Impreza WRC) and Conor Curley (Escort).
In the Historic part of the rally Martin Sheehan was leading
this morning with Don Moynihan 2nd and Liam Sheehan 3rd,
all in Mk1 Escorts.
