Jim Harrison was fastest out of the box on stage 1 but then Charlie Donnelly and Adrian McElvaney were joint fastest on stage 2.  Donnelly reports no real problems, but stalled twice on the first stage. McElvaney said he made his usual slow start, went well on stage 2 but was up a bank on a square right.  That corner caught several drivers out including Patrick Elliott, Patrick also had to slow to avoid a dog in that 2nd stage and had a spin on the first stage at a hairpin.  Jim Harrison had to resort to the manual gear change on his Subaru when the paddle mechanism packed the fiddle. Aaron MacHale reported a steady enough run on the first stage then he had a bit of a still on the 2nd stage. Michael Barrable had a problem with his Focus gear change/fly by wire system at the start line of the first stage.  Michael managed to jury rig a manual change and although he lost a few seconds in the stage and is running late on the road he has no road penalties. Noel Redmond had a big overshoot at a junction in stage 1 and then had a moment in stage 2 when his Subaru brake pedal went away on a downhill section into a 6 left.  Maurice Gass had a couple of spins on the first stage as he tried to get used to his first run in the Corolla and held up Noel McCarrick who in turn held up Alan Ring.

In Group N Ian Barrett was fastest on the opening test with a brilliant time but then lost 4th gear going into a corner in stage 2 and the car under steered up a bank losing valuable seconds.  Frank Wray had a slow first stage but speeded up on the 2nd one. Willie Fannin feels his Impreza his bouncing about but he has moved into the lead of the group N category here in the service area in the beautiful little village of Ballymote. Kevin Kelleher is settling in to his hired Lancer and his total is 19.20.  Alan Ring’s total is 19.03.

In the 2 wheel drive category Rodney Wilton had a fabulous time on the first stage and was just quicker than Maurice Moffett on the 2nd one.  Rodney is finding his Escort gear change kicking back from 1st to 2nd. Mark Alcorn has put his Corolla off in stage 2.  Enda Keenan is going well on a total of 19.11, Moffett on 19.13.  Further stories include: David James lost time behind Wray on stage 1. PJ McGrath has banged the side of his GpN Lancer. Eddy Donaghy has stopped in stage 1. More news later. BRIAN & LIZ PATTERSON www.rallynews.net
