UNOFFICIAL HISTORIC L/BOARD AFTER STAGE 5 MOLLS GAP
1st (1) Ray Cunningham/Richard Hyland (Mini Cooper) 40.09
2nd (2) Dessie Nutt/Geraldine McBride (Porsche 911) 40.24
3rd (17) Adrian Kermode/Liz Jordan (Porsche 911) 43.42
4th (72) James Stait/Gill Cotton (MG Midget) 44.08
5th (24) Phillip Wylie/John Lemon (MGB) 44.29
Ray Cunningham was 10s faster than Dessie Nutt over the Molls Gap
stages to increase his overnight lead from 5s to 15s. Neither driver
reported any particular problem. No a more general note following
the overnight storms the Caragh Lake stage will not be running this
morning because of severe flooding. The Molls Gap stage was damp
with wet leaves and bits of debris; ironically Ballaghbeama is mostly
dry at the moment. However, with very high winds and possibly squally
showers forecast, the situation could change rapidly.
UNOFFICIAL POST HISTORIC L/BOARD AFTER STAGE 5
1st (3) Todd Falvey/Dan Barry (Porsche 911) 38.43
2nd (6) Nick Whale/Sally Woods (Porsche 911) 39.01
3rd (8) Denis & Dan Moynihan (Escort) 39.28
4th (15) James Sutherland/Howard Pridmore (Porsche 911) 39.42
5th (16) Mike Doody/Jonathan Doody (Mini Cooper) 39.49
6th (20) Martin Ward/Linda Conroy (Manta) 40.56
Todd Falvey put his local knowledge to good use by setting a scorching
time over Molls Gap. Nick Whale was leading by 8s overnight but
Falvey was a full 26s faster over this opening Sunday stage. Mike
Doody was 3rd fastest of the post historic drivers. Denis Moynihan
reported no troubles and surprisingly was only 2s up on James Sutherland.
Frank Cunningham had a poor time and now drops behind Martin Ward.
Brian Lawlor should have been running behind Ward but there was
no sign of him at stage finish. Kevin Flanagan is unofficially into
8th place in his Mini, just ahead of Chris Browne. The latter driver
gave himself a big scare on Molls, thought his Escort was going
to end up on its roof.
UNOFFICIAL CLASSIC L/BOARD AFTER STAGE 5
1st (50) Martin McCormack/Joe Agnew (Escort) 39.00
2nd (91) Tom Randles/Sean Duggan (Escort) 39.13
3rd (11) Martin Freestone/Joanne Oakey (Escort) 41.33
Martin McCormack and Tom Randles were tying overnight, but 21 year
old Magherafelt man McCormack was 13s faster than the local man
up the Gap.
UNOFFICIAL MODIFIEDS L/BOARD AFTER STAGE 5
1st (95) Dessie Keenan/Enda Sherry (Escort) 35.49
2nd (104) Pat Donegan/Andy Donoghue (Escort) 36.31
3rd (96) Phil Collins/Adrian Deasy (Escort) 37.11
4th (102) Martin McGee/Arthur Kierans (Escort) 37.48
5th (110) Fergus O'Meara/Dermot Brennan (Escort) 38.41
6th (121) Frank Kelly/Liam Brennan (Escort) 38.34
Pat Donegan led the Modifieds overnight but his Escort suffered
a rear left puncture on the Gap which cost the Meath man 40s. Dessie
Keenan had a great run and was fastest car of all the different
categories over the Gap, although Phil Collins was just 1s down.
Phil had a fairly miserable time through the darkness and the rain
yesterday but has got going well this morning. Kevin O’Donoghue
was 3rd overnight but his Escort has stopped on the Gap, poor reward
for the Killarney man, especially following his win on th4e Kerry
Mini Stages 2 weeks ago. There was no sign of Mike Quinn at the
finish of the Gap, he was 6th overnight in the Modifieds, possibly
we missed him. Donegal man Brian Brogan with Sean Harris on the
notes had a good run to hold 7th just ahead of Lloyd Hutchinson
in the Mini.
