In the Historic section Ray Cunningham reported a good run through
the 2nd stage with no real trouble and likewise Dessie Nutt had
a good clean drive. There was a hiccup with the clock at stage finish
so the times have still to be confirmed. The heavy rain has returned
to Kerry so whether that has anything to do with the clock going
wonky we don’t know as yet….
In the Post Historic section Todd Falvey and Nick Whale are having
a great race in their respective Porsches with Marc Duez surprisingly
subdued so far. James Sutherland is starting to go well in his Porsche.
Mike Doody had a tremendous time on stage 1 but his Mini Cooper
exhaust pipe came loose on the 2nd stage and the car is also overheating
which has cost some time. Frank Cunningham switched on an extra
fuel pump for stage 2 and his Escort seemed to go a bit better.
Joe Connolly again lost time because of his Escort’s broken
gear stock – the mole grips came adrift twice in the stage.
In the Modified part of the rally, as can be seen above, it was
last year’s winner Dessie Keenan setting the pace from Pat
Donegan. Local man Kevin O’Donoghue also went well while Dave
Slattery was just a fraction off the pace on 6.09, Kieran O’Neill
6.16. Peter Kelly put his Escort off the road just after the forge
and Charlie Hickey had a huge moment getting past the stricken Escort.
