Eugene
Donnelly seemed to lose a wee bit of his momentum this morning.
Having been so dominant through the Saturday stages
Eugene
reported that his Corolla careered through a junction. It was at a
square right past a school in the stage, there was a small drop of
water on the road and some water and Eugene just over cooked it.
On top of that he told us that he had a couple of scares and
really just backed off a bit, feeling under pressure running first
on the road and keeping a wary eye for gravel patches. Tim McNulty
was 8s faster than
Eugene
on the first of the 2 stages this morning and 4s faster on the 2nd.
There was some damage to the rear of Tim’s Impreza but he
shrugged that off and said. “We had a fair run although I think
my tyres were not just right and the suspension was a bit soft”.
Tim
was fastest overall on stage 10 while on the open stage today
Greenville
it was Derek McGarrity who was quickest. Derek reported a good
run. The battle continues between Eamonn Boland and Peadar Hurson
for 3rd place, Eamonn just a couple of seconds quicker
over the 2 stages this morning. Ray Breen lost a place on the
leaderboard, his Focus having some gear selection problems. Andrew
Nesbitt has got ahead of the Waterford man, Nesbitt also in some
gear troubles. Austin MacHale had a good solid run and reported no
problems to hold on to 8th place. Gareth Jones was
lying inside the top 10 overnight but he has slipped back with an
off road excursion and also some trouble with his Subaru bonnet
flying up. Gareth held up Willie Fannin at on epoint.
James
Foley lost his overnight group N lead because of an overshoot in
stage 9. Phillip Morrow also had an overshoot and slightly damaged
his Lancer in stage 10.
Overnight
class leaders included: Darren Gass who is 25th in his
Fiesta and leading cl.6, with Andrew Bushe 2nd in that
class in his Peugeot. Enda Hallinan leads class 2 in his Civic.
Simon Kehoe leads cl.7 in his Peugeot 306. Andrew Gamble leads
class 6 in his Micra. Tom Holton leads the National section of the
rally in his Celica from
Brendan Donegan in his Lancer with Wesley Patterson 3rd
in his Escort, Paul Gallagher slipped to 4th in his
Corolla. In the
Historic section Ray Cunningham (Mini Cooper) leads from Martin
Ward (Manta), with Frank Cunningham 3rd (Mini Cooper).
On
the Swedish Rally with 3 stages to go there is a massive race on
as Gronholm has lost 10s with a hydraulic gear shift problem to
leave World Rally Champion Loeb just 14s in arrears. Galli and
Carlsson are just seconds apart in their race for 3rd
and 4th place. (with thanks for Davy Patterson in
Sweden
for that information).
