Just 4 cars actually cleared stage 2 so 5th and 6th
above, Alan Ring and Michael Curran we have given an interim time
to.
Stage 2 was mostly dry but there were some treacherously
slippy damp patches according to Darren McCarthy in one of the
course cars. Jim Harrison crashed the McKinstry Subaru on a long 4
right tightened into square right. The Impreza went in sideways and
we think took quite a wallop. Ray Breen’s Focus was next on the
road and Ray stopped with the Jim and Harvey to make sure they were
alright before continuing. Ray reckoned it cost him perhaps 10s or
so.
Wore news was to follow in that Sean Gallagher crashed his
Impreza WRC on a little narrow part of the stage. We hear, and this
is unconfirmed, that the car rolled several times and went on fire.
Emergency services were brought in immediately and Sean and co
driver Enda Sherry were taken to hospital for a check up.
Approximately 30 cars are jammed behind the stricken Impreza and the
organisers are going to have quite a job to get them turned around
and back into the mainstream of the rally.
Of those cars that did get through stage 2 Ray Breen had a
clean run apart from stopping at the accident. Charlie Donnelly
found it slippy but set a good time. Noel Redmond improved on his
first stage performance, changing the diff settings on his Impreza
and said it transformed the car. He plans now to stiffen up the
suspension and go on to slick dry weather tyres.
Kevin Barrett had a fair run through the stage, Kevin still
not right in his tyre choice.
