Kevin Lynch destroyed the opposition over the opening Glenshane
stage. Thirteen seconds faster than anyone else in just under five
miles and this was despite the KPL Impreza suffering brake problems,
Kevin saying “we had a wee problem with the brakes – that is why we
went so hard” and laughed. Glenn Allen had a trouble free run in his
Corolla but just rolled his eyes when he heard Lynch’s time and
quipped “I hope he gets his brakes fixed, maybe that will slow him
down”. Raymond Johnston found the stage very slippy and reckons he
has a bit of work to do to get onto Lynch’s pace meanwhile co driver
Richard Bell is putting on a brave face after being rushed into
hospital mid week with food poisoning and is still feeling under the
weather. Kieran Shaw is struggling in Brian McCloskey’s Escort WRC
and can hardly reach the steering wheel as the seat is set too far
back, but still set a reasonable time in the stage of 4.41.
Neil McCance set a stunning pace in GpN with a time that puts him
second overall, Neil found the stage very slippy but said “found it a
bit loose but it was consistent – we had a good run “. Johnny
McKenna lost a few seconds after his intercom failed near the start of
the stage while Raymond Mason was also on a charge but had a big spin
over the finish also costing him valuable seconds. Terry McGonigle
found the stage slippy while Martin Elliott reckons he is just bedding
himself in as he gets used to his Lancer on gravel. John McGlaughlin
was very sheepish at the stage finish but said “we had a good run but
I forgot to put the car in gear at the start” costing the young local
lad a valuable few seconds.
Further down the field we only got a few times for the 2wd competitors
but Alistair Cochrane and Frank Kelly both did a 4.47 while Camillus
Bradley did a 4.52. Craig Bennett is just off the leaderboard on 4.46
as is Conor Kelly and Cathal Rodgers on a 4.48. More News Later
