It has
been a mighty battle over the second loop of stages between the two
Monaghan aces Niall Maguire and Adrian McElvaney. On stage four
Niall Maguire pulled two seconds back to make things all level, then
Adrian was fastest in stage seven to move back into the lead by two
seconds and over stage six both drivers tied to leave McElvaney two
seconds ahead. Adrian McElvaney got a new paddle gear change fitted
and is now 100% happy with his Impreza but admitted that he is going
as hard as he wants to. Niall Maguire is relishing this battle with
young McElvaney and is really enjoying what has so far been a good
clean run. David Armstrong has upped the pace after discovering
that following his engine being refitted this week that the boost
pipes had been fitted the wrong way round, David saying “we could
not understand it, whenever you lifted off the throttle the car
pushed on and whenever you pressed the throttle it seemed to go
slower”. Sean Devine is another one on the move and is reeling in
Kevin Barrett in third. Devine is setting times just a couple of
seconds a stage slower than both McElvaney and Maguire.
Willie
Fannin had been leading GpN strongly but has retired his Impreza and
also missing here at service is Dessie Keenan whose Air Contracts
Escort had been suffering major electrical problems. Following the
small problem affecting the finish times of stage three, this has
now been sorted and a battle royale is developing between Maurice
Moffett and Enda Keenan for the 2wd prize. Going into stage four
both drivers were on equal times but Maurice was three seconds
faster in stage four but both drivers then tied in stages five and
six to leave the gap remaining at three seconds. Enda Keenan does
have a small problem with his alternator which is being wedged in
place with a block of wood. Mick McQuaid although going well in 12th
has had a bad misfire since stage four while David McNulty
eventually got a run and is now running in the twenties and could
well creep into the top ten. Trevor Lancashire continues to lead
class 12 from Gerry Cassidy, Lancashire on a total of 52.10,Cassidy
52.29. More News Later Michael Patterson & Zoe Todd |
