Adrian
McElvaney holds a scant two second lead here at the Hillgrove Hotel
service area. Fastest time on the first stage was turned into a
three second deficit in stage two when Niall Maguire went fastest.
McElvaney had broken the gear change paddle on the road section
between stages one and two and used a pair of vice grips to change
gear. To make matters worse the software in the gearbox reset
itself and means that the whole system now needs re-calibrating, so
to snatch the lead back in stage three was quite an achievement.
Niall Maguire had a small gear selection problem towards the start
of stage three but otherwise reported a good run. Fastest through
stage three was Kevin Barrett who was an impressive four seconds up
on McElvaney and six on Maguire, the Triton man reporting no
problems. David Armstrong reckons that something must be wrong with
his older Impreza WRC as he feels to be going well but somehow the
times just are not coming. Sean Devine moves back to fourth after
we gave him a time thirty seconds to fast for SS1 but is still
having a trouble free run none the less.
Enda
Keenan is absolutely flying in his famous black MK2 and has moved
into fifth as he slides the Escort round the now very slippy
Monaghan lanes. His closest 2wd challenger is Mac McKenna in 8th
who lies 19 seconds behind. All the top 2wd runners had a problem
with the finish time control on stage three and as a result our
times are very very unofficial and have included us adding thrity
seconds to their totals. Dessie Keenan set a pretty good time over
stage three but his Air Contracts Escort is still having electrical
problems and it seems that the electronic master switch may be at
fault, causing the car to just stop while in the middle of a stage.
Just
off the leaderboard Trevor Lancashire looks like he is leading the
Pinto race and has a total of 26.10 which would put him just off the
leaderboard. Mick McQuaid is also going well on a total of 26.12
while John McGaffin is on a total of 26.17. More News After Stage 6
