Once
again Ray Breen blitzed stages five and six to extend his lead to 36
seconds over Niall Maguire. Maguire upped his pace a little over
the last two stages to pull away from Liam McCarthy but Ray Breen
still took seven seconds on SS5 and a further eight on SS6. Liam
McCarthy admitted that he was a bit cautious on his first run over
those two tests, saying “I am feeling my way a bit, it is my first
time on Patterson Pacenotes”. Noel Redmond tried a different tyre
for those two stages but his overall time above will be subject to
road penalties which we think amounts to about 45 seconds. Tommy
Graham has retired his Impreza here at service with Manifold
problems. Tommy stopped between stages three and four and dropped
about nine minutes road time, but still set very good times on the
stages and would have been in the top five of the rally.
Alan
Ring upped his pace over stages five and six to extend his GpN lead
to 15 seconds over Adrian Quinn, both drivers having a trouble free
run. Jack Sleator is flying in his Impreza but is somewhat
mystified as to 75 seconds in road penalties that have been applied
on the official results, If the penalties are real Jack will drop
out of the top ten. Peter Clifford was not quite so happy on those
two tests, his gearbox still jumping out of gear while Eamon Daly is
just behind the main battle for GpN on a total of 58.03.
Aiden Walsh has got nearly thirty seconds ahead of Pat Spain after
that loop of stages in the battle for 2wd honours, but at the moment
we have no times for earlier leader Seamus Doyle in his Mk2.
Further down the field Sarah & Amy Moynihan lead class 5 and have
been told to slow down by father Philip in the EARS Micra while
Stephen Bird was leading class 12 but we saw him arrive very late
into service. More News Later Michael Patterson & Zoe Todd
