Ray
Breen continues to set the pace on this Laois Stages Rally and was
fastest again over the second stage taking another three seconds
from Niall Maguire leaving the Dunlop National champion six seconds
in arrears. None of the leading drivers reported any major problems
over the second test though some feel that their tyre choice was not
quite right. Liam McCarthy felt he did not have a particularly good
run at the stage, admitting to being a little bit cautious after his
first stage spin. Tommy Graham is settling in well to the ex- Tim
McNulty Impreza and lies an impressive fifth in the Heffernan Tyres
backed machine.
Noel
Redmond got his Impreza WRC going following the brakes jamming on
and going on fire on the way out to the first stage. He and co
driver Dermot Falvey spent a very long time getting the car fixed,
but then set a time of 11.00 over the first stage and 9.07 on the
second stage despite being off the road and damaging the right hand
side of the car. The crew are running down about 100 on the road,
but their times would put them into fifth overall on a total of
20.07 but we have not included in our top ten as he may be OTL.
Alan
Ring is already setting a blinding pace in the GpN category and
leads Adrian Quinn by seven seconds in what is hotting up to be a
great battle. Tadgh Linehan really struggled with a bad tyre
choice, finding his Impreza all over the road. Peter Clifford
continues to have gearbox problems in his Lancer, the box jumping
out of fourth gear which is very disconcerting. Other GpN times
include Eddie Garry on a total of 21.28 and young Ian Barrett in the
Triton Lancer on a total of 21.32 while Eamon Daly is just off the
leaderboard on a total of 21.12.
Eamon McElvaney is absolutely flying in the little 106 and is
leading 2wd competitor, the young Monaghan man really enjoying these
fast Laois stages. Missing here at service is James Coleman and
Liam Wall both of whom did not come through the first stage while
Aiden Walsh is enjoying himself in his Mk2 and is another one just
of the leaderboard on a total of 21.23. More News later Michael
