No matter how hard Glen Allen tried he could not make any
impression on rally leader Kevin Lynch through the afternoon
stages. Lynch increased the gap between the 2 from 10s after
stage 5 to 21 here at 2nd service. Neither driver reported any
problems, Lynch saying "We're working hard, its hot, but we
had to pick up the pace". Allen stated "We've
nothing left, can't eat up the difference between the 2 cars,
don't know where we go from here". Third placed James
Gillen hung on grimly over the last few stages, his Subaru
sporting a broken front brake disc. Kieran Shaw came from
outside the top 10 after first service, stepped up the pace,
eventually finding out that he hadn't the anti lag system properly
switched on in his Impreza WRC. Jonny McKenna is a brilliant
4th overall despite burning his arm when he was forced to repair
his squashed Lancer exhaust after the Glenshane stage.
Raymond Mason was forced to back off over the last couple of
stages, his lancer suffering worn out tyres at the rear, Raymond
saying. "I fitted 2 new ones at the front, but the back
ones are gone now, the car was all over the place. I just
can't afford to be putting new tyres on all the time".
Seamus Donnelly is tying with Mason but Donnelly was in trouble as
well, his Lancer steering gone all loose and wandery. Seamus
reporting the stages to have got very cut up and rough.
Michael Curran in yet another gpN Lancer took a very large chunk
out of a rim in stage 7, but unbelievably the tyre did not
deflate, despite the contact with a large rock. Brian Muldoon
slipped a few places on the last few stages, his Lancer seemingly
down on power, showing a lack of turbo boost.
In the 2 wheel drive battle Greg McCormack would appear to have
the edge on Camillus Bradley who is just ahead of Andy Magee.
James Cassidy is going hard in his Escort and he is not that far
behind McCormack. Martin Doherty has damaged the sump guard on his
car, the front lip of the guard folded right back underneath.
Robin Philips has retired, the pain in his back too much to bear
through the Moydamlaght stage. Greg McCormack said he was having
trouble getting gears. Andy Magee said "We've had a wheen of
problems. The rack and the alternator belt weren't right, niggly
things, but we're getting there".
