THE ABOVE TIMES ARE VERY UNOFFICIAL. There
was a certain amount of confusion at the end of stage 4, hopefully we are fairly
near the mark with the stage times, but we will have to await ratification later
on today from Angus Sealy in the Results Room.
Certainly Tapio lost a few seconds when
his Subaru collided with a bank and damaged the front, the Finnish driver
estimating that he dropped maybe 20s. Austin MacHale, Eugene Donnelly and Derek
McGarrity all felt they had a good run. Donie O’Sullivan in the Bio-Clear
Focus WRC was another to speed up, while in Group N James Foley dropped a few
seconds to Roy White. James having a small problem with his route notes at the
start of the stage.
Looking back on the time sheets to the end
of stage 3, Aaron MacHale was 11th. Dessie Keenan was 12th.
Highest placed Galway driver was JJ Fleming who was 13th. John Sjpain
was 14th. Tony Davies in the Metro 6R4, despite some wrong tyre
choices, was 15th. Maurice Gass 16th, and still struggling
to come to grips with his new Hyundai. Noel Redmond is 14th in his
similar car. Jack Sleator was 17th. Willie Fannin, despite his spins
and accident damage, was 18th. Ollie O’Reilly 19th and
Glenn Wilson 20th in his F2 Escort, a couple of seconds ahead of Guy
Woodcock.
We mentioned earlier that Eoin Doyle was
off the road in stage 3. He managed to get his gpN Subaru out of the stage but
it looks like he is over lateness and out of the event.
Some more news from Sweden – Andrew
Nesbitt has dropped over a minute when a turbo pipe came adrift, but he is a bit
happier today, there has been some snow, making conditions easier. Letterkenny’s
Shaun Gallagher is happier today also….going better than yesterday. Martin
continues to lead from Loeb. (Thanks to Davy Patterson for news from Sweden).
Thanks also to Michael & Zoe.
More news later. BRIAN AND LIZ
