Robbie has set the pace all day in Willie John Dolan's GpN Impreza, amazing when you consider the WRC opposition McGurk faced today. Robbie said "this car is magic, absolutely fantastic, it is just so nimble, but you have to remember in places that it is still only a GpN car". Eugene Donnelly drove a superb rally to take second in his Bio-Clear Celica, the Maghera man though nearly did not make it through the final stage, the anti-lag throttle sensor jammed open and Eugene ended up in a ditch for about 20 seconds and admits he was very lucky to get going again. Not so lucky was Dominic McNeill who held second for most of the day but retired on the final stage with a broken front wheel. Eamonn Boland notched up a few championship points in third and never put a wheel wrong in the NVD Impreza. There were big dramas for the other top runners through those final two stages, Brian Murphy worst affected in the Harper Impreza. Brian broke a steering arm on stage eight, was then very late into stage ten and incurred a bundle of road penalties, only to suffer a puncture on the final test dropping a further minute and half to finish fifth. Kevin O'Kane another one lucky to get through, he also suffered a puncture plus power steering failure on stage ten, fourth overall is just reward. John Treacy wins class four with a superb drive in his 2wd Mk2 Escort, John reporting no problems over the final stage. Garry Jennings completely dominates class six in his 106, though the Fermanagh man had a fraught finish to the rally, a wheel bearing collapsing and Gerry McGarrity sorting the job out by installing tarmac struts to the car for the final two stages, Garry coming home in eighth overall. Many thanks to all who helped us
today, and well done to George Clancey and his deputies Des O'Keefe and Pat
Sheil on another great rally - no more room. Michael Patterson and Zoe Todd |
