Remarkably Michael Barrable and Niall Maguire were equal
fastest through both stages 5 and 6 to leave the positions
at the top of this Stonethrowers Rally at the two thirds
mark very much status quo. Even though Maguire was
1m45s faster through the second loop of stages than the
first, he has made no impression on Michael Barrable's
lead. Dunlop Championship leader Maguire commented
"The different tyres for the 2nd loop were good, a cut
slick, and I've discovered as well that the new front pads
that I fitted before the start were not properly bedded
in". Michael Barrable told us "We were on
an intermediate tyre for that 2nd loop and they went off
the boil through the last couple of stages, Niall was on
the right tyre, overall though we're going well, the car
feels lovely".
David Armstrong has kept a nice pace to hold on to 3rd
place ahead of Mac McKenna and his amazing rear wheel drive
Peugeot, Mac hampered slightly with further brake troubles.
Roy White maintains his gpN lead and 5th overall, Roy
telling us that is not in fact using the development
Proflex now, but rather his older stuff. Aaron McHale was
faster than White through stages 5 and 6, but only by a
couple of seconds, Aaron having his own battle with George
Tracey in the Subaru. George's total 50.23, just outside
the leaderboard. Also just outside the leaderboard is Joe
McHugh in his gpA Escort Cosworth on 50.24 and David James
is going well with 50.37 in his 2.2 litre Escort. Kieran
Molloy in the gpN Subaru 50.59. Eddie Kinirons continues to
have a good run in his Celica despite no 6th gear, and now
having brake troubles. Patrick Elliott still cannot make
the leaderboard, his total 51.57. Liam McCarthy/Kieran
Murphy in the Corolla WRC 50.;30. FORD IRELAND FOCUS
C/SHIP Oliver Stanley now leads by 4s from Colm Murphy with
Brendan Kelly 3rd. More news later. BRIAN AND LIZ PATTERSON
