Their Peugeot team mate Rory Galligan is marooned in that final stage, a stone having ripped open the petrol tank. Guy Wilks therefore takes 2nd place in his Ford Puma on a total of 2.01.56.5. David Henderson like Wilks persevered through many problems to take 3rd place on a total of 2.03.33.4. Jonny Milner takes overall victory on this Rally of Wales, the 33 year old Yorkshireman saying at the end "This is my first outright win on the British Championship. It took a lot of getting here, 13 years of heartache, but worth every minute of it". Second plaaced David Higgins set fastest time through the last stage and moved up from 4th to 2nd, to also win gpN in his Barretts Subaru.. David told us "I wasn't interested in finishing 4th. Fair play to to the Pirelli tyres, we were cutting things, taking chances I would never have dreamed of and the tyres held up". Tapio Laukkanen in 3rd was disappointed not to have won the gpN, but gearbox linkage problems dropped the flying Finn probably just under half a minute on the final stage. Last minute dramas included Nik Elsmore losing over 2 minutes on the final stage with a broken prop shaft and dropping outside the top 10. Alistair Ginley caught Nik in the stage, got past him, and then suffered a puncture, so he also lost a bit of time. With just 1 stage to go Ryan Champion leads the Ford Puma 1400 championship contenders, and that was despite having no 2nd gear from the start. Barry Clark leads the Ford Ka championship contenders and is overall leader of the Gwynedd Rally from Shaun Woffinden. Ian Chadwick led the VW Polo Challenge contenders from Sophie Robinson. PEUGEOT 206 SUPER CUP - Chris Moore came out on top on a total of 2.02.23.9 with Garry Jennings making a valiant effort to catch him, but failing by 6.8 seconds. Jennings keeps the lead in the Peugeot 206 Super Cup after this 2nd round - but well done to Chris Moore, who is a fireman from the North East of England when he is not rallying, for fending off the young Ballinamallard man's charge. Many thanks to all who supported the RallyNews service and well done to Jim Jones and all his team for a terrific rally under difficult circumstances. BRIAN AND LIZ PATTERSON (and DAVY P)….
