Rally leader Johan Kressner reported all well with his Subaru when he reached the overnight halt here at Wrexham.  Charlie Jukes has surprised everyone with his speed to hold 2nd place, and told us "I have slowed down to speed up, keeping it tidy!". Tapio Laukkanen in 3rd felt that the stages did not suit the car so well but he was happy to be leading group N.  4th placed Marcus Dodd felt that the lack of the boot lid and rear spoiler hampered his Subaru on the fast Clocaenog straights.  Marcus also lost time when he was down changing into a hairpin junction the engine stalled and he had to crank it for 20s plus, before the flat 4 would fire up. Jonny Milner told us "In the second stage the hydraulic pressure was fluctuating and the transmission was moving between 2 and 4 wheel drive. We think the pump is at fault. We don't have one here, but there's one at home in Yorkshire on Graham Middleton's car, so we might get that down tonight".  David Higgins is also in transmission trouble and said "Something in the centre diff is playing up - it's in safe mode and won't allow the handbrake to work".  Steve Petch in the Hyundai reports "We have broken a drive shaft in that 2nd stage, possibly it was on a hairpin about 1 mile in. I thought it was a puncture at first. Otherwise the car is very very good, the new Proflex suspension rides the bumps well, I'm impressed".  Taguchi told us "The Mitsubishi goes very well, on second stage I go through junction and have to reverse 60 metres".

Austin McHale still has a problem with front suspension/steering rack following the big stage 1 jump. Natalie Barratt lost the rear brakes on her Hyundai and also they went slightly on fire at one point. Leon Pesticcio dropped at least 5 minutes when he had to stop and change a wheel. Nik Elsmore had a spin in stage 2 dropping 10s as did Swedish visitor Svedlund, also in a Lancer. Robert Woodside is down in 15th his confidence still not restored in his notes after his Kielder accident. Peugeot Super 206 Cup - Garry Jennings leads after SS2 from Mike Faulkner with Chris Moore 3rd, Ramanen 4th, Dunbabin 5th.  More in the morning…BRIAN AND LIZ PATTERSON
