Last time this Killarney Rally of the Lakes took place,
Lough Allua proved to be Andrew Nesbitt's downfall. This
time to a lesser extent it is Derek McGarrity's. Nesbitt
has moved into the lead while McGarrity has suffered a 3
minute time loss when his Subaru landed badly after a big
jump and burst a wheel. Nesbitt reports no problems,
and was fastest with a time of 10.02. Eamonn Boland
recorded 10.20 and that was despite a small spin. Liam
O'Cllaghan was 3rd fastest with 10.23. Daniel Doherty 4th
on 10.24.
McGarrity's time was 14.07. Also in puncture wars was
Trevor Cathers. His Lancer dropped several minutes when it
suffered a flat tyre. Cathers time was 12.51. New
group N leader Donie O'Sullivan recorded 10.59 - 1s slower
than Seamus Leonard in a similar new Prodrive gpN Impreza.
Denis Cronin is shown above as equal 11th with Bob Fowden.
We do hear unofficially that Denis' BMW has incurred clutch
problems. Whether they will be able to continue we must
wait and see.
Just outside the above leaderboard Liam McCarthy is
battling on despite his Corolla WRC making all sorts of
transmission noises, and running with reduced boost. Next
up is Tony Davies in his class leading Metro 6R4. Then
Pete Doughty in one of the McKinstry gpA Subarus. Tom
Randles is next and best Mk2 Escort. Randles was
having a big battle with Jimmy Lambert, but Lambert's Mk2
has just suffered a 3 minute plus puncture in Lough Allua.
Jon Stangle, Adrian McElvaney, Roy White and Mike O'Leary
occupy the next places. More news later. BRIAN AND LIZ
PATTERSON
(ps - on our last RallyNews we mentioned Glengarriff and
the Kingdom of Kerry in the one breath …Noreen Marshall
has just reminded us that even though Kerry would like to
claim Glengarriff…it's in Co.Cork!!)
