Andrew Nesbitt and Peadar Hurson set joint fastest times through stage 2, Knockacullig, the Subaru and the Celica recording 11.12. Daniel Doherty had a time of 11.19.  Derek McGarrity could only manage an 11.20 after spinning his new Subaru at the first junction of the stage, and damaging a rear corner ever so slightly.  Peadar Hurson complained of brake fade towards the end of the stage, which makes his time all the more remarkable in the now ageing Celica.  Interestingly, McGarrity said at the end of the first stage that he couldn't believe how the Subaru was going over the bumps. While Hurson told of his car getting thrown about all over the road.

Further back, news has reached us that Brendan Kelly has crashed his Lancer into a shed.  In the group N tussle Trevor Cathers and Donie O'Sullivan were past the scene of the accident, while Seamus Leonard was caught behind it and perhaps lost a few seconds.  Certainly, Bio-Clear man O'Sullivan was fastest gpN car on 11.48, Cathers was 11.55 and Leonard was 12.09.  Also affected in that accident was Johnny O'Sullivan who punctured 2 tyres in his Escort WRC getting past the scene.  We hear since that the stage has now been stopped and the later cars are being re-routed.  Early reports are that Brendan Kelly and Rory Kennedy are OK, but at the same time an ambulance has been sent in as a precaution.
