"Delighted, just delighted" smiled Andrew Nesbitt when his Pirelli shod Subaru completed the 14th and final stage of this Murphy Construction Cork 20 International Rally.  Andrew and co driver James O'Brien not only win the rally, but they win their 2nd Tarmac Championship crowns, even with the Galway Ireland West event still to come. Eamonn Boland's 2nd place today means he is runner up in the championship. For Peadar Hurson it is quite a red letter day to finish 3rd after a season of Tarmac Championship retirements. The last 3 stages ran without a hitch, organisational wise, but for several of the leading drivers there were moments of drama. Maurice Gass's Impreza WRC sustained a puncture in stage 12 costing well over a minute, but the Armagh man did not lose a place. Trevor Cathers' Lancer also sustained a puncture, and that knocked Trevor from 8th to 13th place, Trevor hauling himself back to 11th. The side effect of this is that Trevor does not tie up the gpN section of the Tarmac C/ship.  He can still be beaten by Roy White, so these two must go to the final round. Donal O'Donovan had a problem on stage 13 when the floor pan of his Celica caught fire because of exhaust heat. The marshals at stage finish helped to sort that out, but it meant road penalties for Donal, happily not affecting his position. Ollie O'Donovan got his Impreza's centre diff changed in record time by the McKinstry mechanics, then thumped the front left hand corner of the Impreza on the last stage, but survived to finish 7th.

In the top Modified class of the rally, David James would appear to be the winner. Kieran O'Neill retired earlier with a broken wishbone on his Kadett. Padraig Price seems to have retired also, reason as yet unknown. In the Ford Ireland Focus C/ship section Colm Murphy is the winner. Cathal O'Reilly retired his Focus a couple of stages from the end. Colm was being chased by Ken Lyons, but he put his Focus into a field.  John Foley was 2nd, Oliver Stanley 3rd.    In the Kas David Lyons came out tops with Cathal Greaney 2nd. In the Peugeot 106 Bonus Scheme Cork man Shane McCarthy was the winner on the rally, Eugene Meegan still leads the points.  Finally for now - many congratulations to Hugh McPhillips, Frank O'Mahony and all at the Munster MC for providing us with such a splendid rally this weekend.
