Fastest through this opening stage on day 2 of this Roush Manx Rally was Mark Perrott by just a fraction of a second from Steve Hendy.  Kenny McKinstry equalled Hendy's time, but Kenny was lying an overnight 35th following his stage 3 puncture.  Perrott started this leg of the rally a minute late following starter motor problems with his Escort WRC.

Rally leader Melvyn Evans reported no problems, no dramas, but commented "I think I'm still a bit sleepy".  Weather conditions here on the island are bright and sunny, but bitterly cold in the high winds.  Speeds should be high and it will be interesting to see if Kenny McKinstry can come back on to the leaderboard and at least score some points in the Kumho National Championship.

Third on the road John Price reported all well, as did Steve Hendy in 4th.  Fifth placed David Mann had a good time, but the mushroom farmer is still settling in after his fairly major Astra Stages accident. Phil Collins makes up the top 6 in his amazing Mk2 Escort.  Roger Duckworth set a good time to hold on to 8th place, Roger's Subaru suffered a broken drive shaft last night and happily is showing no ill effects this morning. Jon Mercere started this morning in 9th place, but has slipped right back.  His Metro 6R4 spluttered to a halt halfway up the hill towards the end of the stage.  Jon managed to cajole the car to the finish line but lost almost 3 minutes.  Co-driver Aled Davies said "At least we made it to the pub!" (Referring to the famous pub here at the end of the stage).  The mechanics were able to sort the problem which seemed to be crank shaft sensor/fuel related.

Bob Fowden continues to lead group N from Mark Morgan with Kevin Stephens 3rd, all in Lancers.

Outside the leaderboard in the overnight standings - Steve Fleck was 11th. Robert Watson 12th thanks to some brilliant driving in his Nova Kit Car.  Bob Fowden was 13th. Nigel Worswick 14th, Nigel having to switch off the anti lag system when he comes to hairpins. Nigel Cannell was 15th. John Indri 16th. Cahal Arthurs 17th. Lee Batty 18th. Charlie Payne 19th. Mark Morgan 20th. Nigel Hicklin 121st. Dessie Nutt led the Historics overnight and Nick Whale the Post Historics - both in Porsche 911's. More news later. BRIAN AND LIZ PATTERSON
