Fastest through the 2nd stage of this Wirral Rally was Martin Rowe, his Puma clocking 3.46.6, Justin Dale's Peugeot stopped the clock on 3.47.4 and a rather bemused looking Robert Woodside was next fastest on 3.52.8. Woodside ...bemused? ....Robert reckoned that he had a good fast run, maybe one very slight overshoot, he couldn't understand why he was 6s slower than Martin Rowe, and 5 down on Justin Dale. It would appear that some drivers found the second chicane was pretty wide open. Martin Rowe told us that for him it was fairly well flat out, Martin also saying that he chose a more suitable compound Pirelli for that run and things went really well. About the chicane Martin said "This time it worked to our advantage, next time..who knows?"

Justin Dale in the Peugeot continues to show brilliant pace, Justin still fiddling slightly with his brake balance control, but otherwise happy with his lot. Mats Andersson is finding good pace with his Proton, as is Neil Collins - in fact Neil was 1s up on his illustrious Swedish team mate through that second stage. Many of the drivers are now finding that they are encountering slower cars on the stage and it is knocking them off their stride a wee bit.

Main retirements after the first stage included...Geoff Jones whose Corsa coasted to a halt mid stage, we guess with ongoing fuel pump problems. As reported on our last RallyNews, Neil Simpson was forced to retire the works VW Polo after the first stage with some engine problem in the new car.

Looking back to the first stage...in the Peugeot Super 106 Cup, Chris Moore came through to fastest with a time of 4.10.8, just a fraction in front of Dave Nutt with Gary Jennings 3rd. Rory Galligan 4th and young Kris Meeke 5th. From the first few times of the Peugeot Super 106 cars after stage 2 it would appear that Rory Galligan has set a fairly astounding time to move into the lead with Dave Nutt 2nd and Kris Meeke up into 3rd. In the Ford Puma 1400 series after 2 stages, David Henderson was ahead of Guy Wilks with Mark Wheeler 3rd.
