Although a few seconds lower than on his first run Peadar Hurson was still a lot quicker than his closest opposition, Tim McNulty, through stage 2. Indeed, McNulty was 3s slower than his first stage time as well. Maurice Gass improved by 10s on his first run, but still made no impression on the two cars in front. Hurson commented at stage finish "I think it was even slipper that time, I overshot a junction early on, just too quick in. Indeed all the junctions are very slippy. It's hard to get in the groove". McNulty also reported an overshoot, and went on to say "I'm happy enough in these conditions to stay in 2nd, just try to bring the car home in one piece".

On our last Rallynews we reported Maurice Gass having a persistent misfire in his new Subaru when the car was pulling away from junctions. Maurice reports that the mechanics have fitted a new set of spark plugs to the WRC and it's going a lot better. The Markethill man commented "I know I'm still a bit off the pace, but I'm happy enough". Fourth on the road, Sean McArdle, told us that his Celica just doesn't want to turn in, and he has had several overshoots .... "maybe it's just me" was Sean's comment.

In Group N Kieran Molloy really put the cat amongst the pigeons through stage 2 with a time of 10 minutes even, 6th quickest overall. Kieran's total now is 20.20 just knocking on the door of the top 10. Donal Bowens had a time of 10.32. Donal just couldn't believe that he was slower than his first run. "I never had the yoke out of 5th gear hardly, thought I was 30s faster at least" was Donal's reaction to his time. Willie Fannin, also in GpN, is on a total of 21.22. Patrick Price 21.45. James and Ann Foley speeded up significantly on their 2nd stage, 14s faster than their first run. James told us "It wouldn't have been hard to be faster than my first run, Ann would hardly speak to me at the end of it, she was that disgusted".

Other stores include.. William Carroll slowing slightly and dropping from 5th to 6th, his Escort Cosworth clutch starting to slip. David James reckons his Escort BDX is developing a worsening misfire. Eamon Murphy in the white Mk2 Escort at No.24 suffered a 3m puncture. John Carroll and co driver Diarmuid Falvey set a time of 10.50 on their 2nd run - they were certainly fastest of the Ford Ka's on the first lap, and John Felt he went well again in stage 2, settling down to a more consistent rhythm. Gerry Keves was 2nd fastest Ka. Declan Magee 3rd fastest and Trevor Harding crashed out.
