RALLY NEWS NO.8
Caerwent..Sunday 5.30 UNOFFICIAL LEADERBOARD AFTER STAGE 12 - FINAL STAGE 1st (5) Justin Dale/Andrew Bargery (Peugeot) 1.46.44.3 2nd (7) Martin Rowe/Chris Wood (Ford Puma) 1.48.06.3 3rd (33) Michael Brew/Breeshey Christian (Peugeot) 1.50.38.3 4th (31) Garry Jennings/Martin McGarrity (Peugeot) 1.50.46.6 5th (34) Rory Galligan/Billy McCullins (Peugeot) 1.50.49.1 6th (8) Patrick Maugaud/Guylane Brun (Ford Puma) 1.51.55.7 7th (40) Chris Moore/Andrew Dugdale (Peugeot) 1.52.03.3 8th (36) David Henderson/Ian Windress (Ford Puma) 1.52.16.8 9th (39) Adrian McElvaney/Cian Curley (Peugeot) 1.52.26.0 10th (35) Guy Wilks/Clive Jenkins (Ford Puma) 1.53.25.3 In the final analysis Peugeot driver Justin Dale had a comfortable win here at Caerewent. When Justin and co driver Andrew Bargery pulled in to the final control Justin reported "Very pleased to have won, the car went really well. I did it fair and square, needed to prove that we could win. Everyone said this would be a very difficult place but we managed to keep it altogether". Second placed Martin Rowe stepped from his Ford Puma and said "I'm really pleased to finish, glad to be here. I just can't understand this venue. On that last stage we really cruised it - the steering column felt a bit loose and I took it so steady. Somehow or another I equalled my time from the previous stage where I was trying very hard". Martin of course got off on the wrong foot earlier in the rally when he only scraped into the top 6 times on the first stage, so he did well to keep it all together and move up to 2nd. Admittedly the Ford man was helped by others misfortunes, the main thing being that he retains his lead in the Formula Rally championship. Michael Brew's 3rd place and top Peugeot Super 106 Cup contender was a wonderful result for the Manxman, he admitted he had to push hard over the last couple of stages following his time loss when he crunched a front wheel. Garry Jennings and Rory Galligan were also pushing hard in their Peugeot Cup cars and barely a handful of seconds covered the three at the final stop. David Henderson did enough to finish leading Puma 1400 Championship contender from Guy Wilks, Edwards was 3rd and Woffinden 4th. Happily there were no major dramas amongst the leading cars on the final stage but it was certainly a day of many retirements. Mats Andersson, Martin Sansom and Paul Wedgbury were all right in the leading frame until disaster struck. We are happy to report that Max McKillen has been released from hospital following his accident earlier. Reportedly the Dubliner has no real injuries. In the VW Polo Challenge David Bateson was heading for victory, although we haven't as yet received the final times. Many thanks to all who helped with the Rally News service today...hopefully see you all on the next Formula Rally round in Scotland in September. A special thanks to Mike Taylor and all his team who helped us with the recce. BRIAN AND LIZ PATTERSON |
