Conditions have not got any easier for the drivers, with many reporting
overshoots, punctures and thumped wheels. Justin Dale led after the first 2
stages, but in stage 4 the Peugeot driver had an overshoot at a junction anddropped about 15s.  Formula Rally championship leader Martin Rowe reported after stage 4 "That was a bit better, but where the electric screen stops at the sides we're still guessing at the turn in to corners. Still very
difficult".  Martin Sansom continues to turn in a really good performance,
and he was pretty modest when he arrived in to service, saying "Not too bad, at least we didn't spin that time and we could see where we were going a bit better".

Mats Andersson was well up the list after the first couple of stages, but he
dropped some places when his car overshoot through a junction, bursting
through the tape, and he had to handbrake around to get back on to the stage. Paul Wedgbury reported a big moment in underneat the trees when his Saxo went into a big slide, Paul saying "Yes, it was a bit of a moment, but we're not pushing really, just trying to drive clean".  Fellow Saxo driver Max McKillen was not just as cheerful - the Dubliner reporting "We're really
having a disastrous day, I can't see anything, I'm not happy at all".  Martin
Meadows lost some time when his tyres went off the boil before the start of
stage 4, also there is a suspension arm gone loose.  Young Ian Barrett made a slow start but went better through stages 3 and 4, saying "It felt a lot better".

Peugeot Super 106 Cup leader Garry Jennings was another to have a good run through stages 3 and 4 after a first stage spin. Ryan Champion suffered a puncture on stage 4 which cost about 30s.  Paul Alexander, who has upgraded from 1400 to a 1600 Puma, told us "It's my first time in left hand drive and I'm finding it difficult to place the car and we can't see much either".  Kris Meeke was off the road again, his Peugeot stuck in a field for quite a time on SS4, although young Kris had a really good time in stage 3. Adrian McElvaney was off the road in stage 3, the Monaghan man's foot slipping off the brake pedal. Michael Brew was disappointed to lose a few seconds through 4 with a front puncture, losing approx. 30s and a few places...

VW Polo Cup - after the first 2 stages Clive Wheeler was approximately 16s ahead of pre event favourite David Bateson with Adrian Kermode 3rd.  The works Polo of Neil Simpson did not start the rally because of an engine
problem.
