Current National Rally Champion Paul Harris absolutely flew through those opening two stages to accumulate a lead over local man Frank Meagher. Harris driving his usual Autosportif Impreza admitted that he was on the wrong tyres for stage two, that an intermediate would have been better but it is the same for everyone. Frank Meagher was struggling with his Focus WRCs rear suspension on the first stage, the back of the car was all over the place so they dropped it down for SS2 and changed the front diff settings also.

Peadar Hurson looks like he is the first major retirement after he reportedly put his Celica off the road in stage two, Peadar setting third fastest time on SS1. Daniel Doherty has completed SS2 but his Impreza WRC is reportedly stopped with a flat battery at the end of the test.

Roy White and Des Cooney are flying in their FESP Lancer, holding fifth overall and leading GpN. Roy dropping time on the first stage after catching a car for about five miles. Kieran Molloy is also flying in his GpN Lancer, just inside the top ten, 23 seconds down on local man White.

David Armstrong is another driver having problems catching cars on stages but is well placed in fourth, while virtually all the leading driver are complaining of wrong tyre choices in the damp slippy conditions.
