But he was back in 35th overnight, 12 minutes behind the leader Dave Weston so is unlikely to make an impression on the leaderboard today. Weston said "Struggled a bit, couldn't get into it, it was rough, maybe lost a bit". In fact he lost little to the cars immediately behind - Brian Bell admitted to a sleepy start. Munro made a charge but was still a fraction slower than Weston. Steve Palmer was 4th overnight, but his Lancer sustained a puncture and a damaged brake pipe, so he dropped almost 2 minutes and down to 7th. Young Simon Hughes was the fastest Peugeot Super 106 Cup pilot, but having said that, Rory Galligan fitted new tyres and was well on the pace to hold his position. Ryan Champion was just 0.1 of a second faster. Mike Faulkner, another Peugeot Super 106 Cup driver has crashed off the road and Michael Brew lost time with a puncture. Other stories from this first of the Sunday stages includes...Eamonn Boland's Impreza WRC still down on power - it now looks like bent valves rather than electrical trouble. Richard Sykes changed the dampers in his 106 and went better this morning, now getting some traction. Ian Paterson in the Escort Cosworth had a puncture. Ryan Champion reports his 106 jumping out of 3rd gear on the rough stuff. Raymond Munro reckons he may have bent his Impreza's steering. Overnight class leaders included Guy Woodcock in his RS2000-neither Guy nor co-driver John Skinner have done any forest rallying, so they are in at the deep end here. Martin Newcombe leads Cl.N2. Stuart Paterson leads class B10. Steve Blunt cl.N3. Colin Greer cl.B11. Stuart McQueen led group N overnight. Steve Palmer led gpA. Rory Galligan led A6 and the Peugeot Super 106 Cup. Looking back for just a moment..David Henderson came through to win the Ford Puma championship category of the Saturday leg from Shaun Woffinden. Darren Snape won the Ford Ka section and also wins the championship. Clive Wheeler won the VW Polo Challenge from Ian Chadwick. Regarding Alistair Ginley's retirement, co-driver Rory Kennedy phoned us from the ambulance which was moving him from Dumfries Infirmary to Glasgow Royal-the Letterkenny man was in great spirits and told us that hopefully following some surgery all will probably be well with the fingers of his left hand. More news later..BRIAN & LIZ PATTERSON
