UNOFFICIAL L/BOARD FORMULA RALLY SUPER 1600 AFTER SS5

2nd (104) Mats Andersson/Claire Mole (Satria) 53.58.2

3rd (105) Patrick Magaud/Guylene Brun (Ford) 55.48.9

5th (108) Paul Wedgbury/Neil Dashfield (Saxo) 56.33.6

6th (103) David Higgins/Mike Gibson (Volkswagen) 58.26.3

Main stories from the second visit to the long Ae stage are that Justin Dale was comfortably quicker than Mats Andersson - by 24s - while David Higgins suffered a puncture on his VW Polo to drop from 3rd to 6th. David lost over 3 minutes. Robert Woodside stopped his Puma mid stage. The oil light was on and the engine was rattling. There did not seem much point in the Ulsterman prolonging the agony. It was a brand new engine as well.

In the various one make categories after stage 3 - Shaun Woffinden leads the Ford Pumas by just over 4s from David Henderson with Mark Wheeler 3rd, a further 25s back. Darren Snape leads the Ford Ka category from Ian Forgan with Edward Pugh 3rd. David Bateson leads the VW Polo Challenge from Ian Chadwick with Clive Wheeler 3rd and Adrian Kermode 4th.

Through the final 2 tests Justin Dale trounced the opposition to win the Formula Ralloy today by over 1m30s. The Peugeot driver commented "We pushed right to the end, did not want to lose concentration. On the last stage we were listening to every noise and clunk. I think the first stage was make or break, we were fired up for that, and then it was a matter of holding station. The stages were great towards the end, lots of grip, every corner had a slight little ridge, very enjoyable. The only thing we changed on the car all day was the tyres!" Second placed Mats Andersson said "We backed off towards the end, nothing to fight for, we knew we had 2nd place". Patrick Magaud in the Ford Puma was 1m20s faster on his 2nd visit to Ae, the Frenchman much happier with his performance as he got the feel of the Scottish forests. David Higgins was naturally unhappy to have dropped out of 3rd place with that stage 5 puncture and said "It was really down the rear brakes jamming up a little, the car was understeering, and we got the puncture early on".
