Following the Castle O'er stage Justin Dale told us "I backed off slightly in Twiglees, but got the foot down in there. I think we pulled about 6s on Mats. The stages are very smooth, it's nice to get back into the forests, it is 15 months since we did a proper gravel rally, which was here!" Interestingly, Justin went on to say that his Peugeot team had a pit board out for him on the first stage, but of course it wasn't really necessary as Martin Rowe dropped 4 mins. with the throttle problem and then retired on stage 3 with a down on power engine. Second placed Mats Andersson said after Castle O'er "It felt OK, but I hear some small noise from the gearbox which put me off, also on the fast bit towards the end I see a lady spectator who fell, and that also made me slow a little". David Higgins in the VW Polo reported "The gear ratios, the Proflex suspension and the traction, the Pirelli tyres, everything is mint. The only problem is the brakes are sticking on slightly and its holding me down on the straights. I'm really enjoying the day - it must be something about the Irish co-drivers as well - I'm getting on really well with Mike, it reminds me of the year we won group N with Chris (Patterson)".

Other stories from Formula Rally include...Martin Sansom reporting a small problem with the cut odut switch in the car and also the engine dying under heavy braking. Robert Woodside is of course out of the hunt following his SS1 puncture, but said "I've changed the Puma suspension a little and it feels better, but maybe I'm short shifting too much looking for more traction. I'm a little disappointed in the times".

In the Puma championship - Shaun Woffinden leads by just .3 of a second from David Henderson with Mark Wheeler a further 19s back. Expected front runner Guy Wilks has lost 3 minutes when a brake caliper was dislodged by a stone in Ae. In the Ka championship - Darren Snape leads Ian Forgan by 25s with Edward Pugh a further 7s back.
