UNOFFICIAL FORMULA RALLY SUPER 1600 L/BOARD AFTER SS2 1st (102) Justin Dale/Andrew Bargery (Peugeot) 24.45.7 2nd (104) Mats Andersson/Claire Mole (Satria) 25.20.3 3rd (103) David Higgins/Mike Gibson (Volkswagen) 25.32.7 4th (107) Martin Sansom/Phil Wells (Peugeot) 26.15.7 5th (105) Patrick Magaud/Guylene Brun (Ford) 26.32.7 6th (108) Paul Wedgbury/Neil Dashfield (Saxo) 26.59.8 Fastest through stage 2, Windy Hill, was Justin Dale in the Peugeot with Mats Andersson 2nd fastest, 2s behind Dale. David Higgins was 3rd fastest in the VW Polo despite still settling in to his new machine, and still struggling somewhat to get a satisfactory brake distribution set up. Happily Volkswagen's regular driver Neil Simpson has appeared into the service area, arm in sling, but looking cheerful. Justin Dale reports the roads still very slippy, while Martin Rowe also felt his throttle sticking on that 2nd stage, although nothing like as severe as the first one, where he dropped 4 minutes with the problem. Martin's team mate Patrick Magaud reported "It is very difficult for me, first time here, I think second time through stages will be better". UNOFFICIAL LEADERBOARD SCOTTISH 2 DAY 1st (57) Mark Higgins/Bryan Thomas (Impreza) 17.34.6 2nd (59) Alistair Ginley/Rory Kennedy (Impreza WRC) 18.30.8 3rd (56) Raymond Munro/Neil Ewing (Impreza) 18.55.3 4th (4) Jock Armstrong/John Richardson (Lancer N) 19.03.1 5th (6) Dave Weston/Neil Shanks (Impreza N) 19.20.7 6th (10) Rory Galligan/Paul Nagle (Peugeot) 19.26.2 7th (5) Barry Johnson/Peter Croft (Impreza) 19.28.6 8th (11) Ryan Champion/Cliff Simmons (Peugeot) 19.30.2 9th (14) Mike Faulkner/Alan Clark (Peugeot) 19.30.7 10th (22) Daniel & Clive Dunbabin (Peugeot) 19.35.3 Early stories from the National A section of the rally include Tapio Laukkanen's Subaru being stuck in 5th gear for much of the long Ae test. A puncture compounded the Finn's trouble and he has retired the Impreza on the road section up to Windy Hill. Fastest driver Mark Higgins reported "The Impreza is so relaxed compared to the F2 car from last year - I outbraked myself a couple of times and had a half spin at a junction, but otherwise OK". Rory Galligan is fastest of the Peugeot Super 106 Cup contenders. There was disaster for young Kris Meeke when a front left wheel came off - it would appear the wheel nuts were loose. Kris managed to get the spare wheel on with a nut from each of the other wheels, but he is not a happy young man. Some other times from stage 1 - Eamonn Boland was 19.40.3. Garry Jennings was unhappy with his run, and he recorded 20.25.2. Stuart McQueen in the gpN Lancer had 19.52.8. Michael Brew had a slight off which unsettled him and his time was 20.37.4. Marko Ramanen in the Peugeot 205 set a time of 19.51.1. Daniel Dunbabin was one of the 106 contenders well on the pace with 19.35.3. More news later..BRIAN & LIZ PATTERSON
