UNOFFICIAL LEADERBOARD AFTER STAGE 2 1st (2) Andrew Nesbitt/James O'Brien (Subaru WRC) 6.16 2nd (7) Kenny McKinstry/Mark Geraghy (Subaru WRC) 6.17 3rd (5) Frank Meagher/Dermot O'Gorman (Focus WRC) 6.26 4th (3) Austin McHale/Brian Murphy (Celica) 6.29 5th (78) Derek McGarrity/Gary Lyons (Subaru WRC) 6.31 6th (17) Maurice Gass/Geoffrey Orr (Subaru WRC) 6.32 7th (75) Ollie O'Donovan/David Moynihan (Legacy) 6.36 8th (9) Paul Harris/Eugene O'Donnell (Impreza) 6.38 9th (12) Tim McNulty/Pat Lordan (Impreza) 6.39 Andrew Nesbitt recorded exactly the same stage time for stage 2 as he did for stage 1, 3.08. While Kenny McKinstry was 3s slower than time to record 3.10 as against 3.07 on the first run. This moved Nesbitt into a 1s lead with 1 stage remaining. When Andrew's Cuisine de France backed Subaru slid to a halt at stage fihnish he looked pretty cool..the Tarmac Champion saying "Good run, steady!" Kenny McKinstry thought he also had a good run and was really surprised to discover that he was 3s slower. Frank Meagher and Derek McGarrity were equal 3rd fastest through stage 2, both stopping the clocks on 3.12. McGarrity of course had a spin on the first stage which has spoiled his chances really for today. Eamonn Boland did not complete stage 1 but came through stage 2 OK with a time of 3.24. Eamonn reports that during a spin on stage 1 a little bit of the steering got damaged which meant he could not continue. Unfortunately Billy Coleman's Metro 6R4 stopped on that 2nd stage - reason as yet unknown. Frank O'Mahony did not come through stage 2 either... Ollie O'Donovan finished stage 2 on 3 tyres having banged a front wheel on a square right. Tommy Graham lost a fair bit of time ons tage 2 when he got his Escort Cosworth wedged at the chicane. In the unofficial gpN race - Brendan Kelly had a real quick time on stage 2 of 3.22 as against George Tracey's 3.24, Stephen Harris recorded 3.30 while Raymond Johnston was right in the hunt between Harris & Tracey. Willie Singleton had a spin on that stage, Willie saying "It doesn't matter, I'm just tiddling through the rough stuff trying to save the car for next weekend". Dermot Carnegie in the OOing 600 horse power plus rallycross machine recorded a time of 3.13 on his 2nd stage and tells us it was pulling around about 200kmh on the fast section at the bottom of the course. Looking back to stage 1 Gary Jennings in his Peugeot 106 was fastest of the cl.2 cars, just 1s up on Max McKillen with Seamus Donnelly 3rd, James & Ann Foley 4th in their Civic. Paul Staunton and Jimmy Lambert were equal fastest at the top of the class 3 time sheets, both driving Mk2 Escorts. Liam Denning was fastest of the Ford Ka's 4s up on Ivan Allen's Suzuki Swift with Gordon & Robbie Coleman 3rd in class 1 and 2nd of the Kas with Andrew Hegarty 3rd Ka. Enda Nolan in the "guest" Ford Puma had a clutch problem on the first stage which slowed him but he did make the finish. More news after stage 3..BRIAN & LIZ PATTERSON |
