Main changes to the leaderboard through stage 6 were that
Gwyndaf Evans extended his lead, Kenny McKinstry jumped over 3
places and Peadar Hurson dropped back when he spun his Celica.
Gwyndaf said "We had a good run, I think the gravel was
faster for us this time, we were cleaning the gravel off the top
last time". McGarrity said "We didn’t have a bad
run, just found it very slippy". Maurice Gass told us
"If I go any harder, I’ll go off the road".
As McKinstry continues to charge he is trying to save the car
and on that last stage he only used the clutch off the start
line. Biggerstaff continues to hold 4th place
convincingly and is happy with the way the car is going. Trevor
Moore is losing pints of sweat when he comes to the end of the
stage but he is certainly making his little Escort Cosworth
sing. While Stephen Harron is also well on the pipe, a very
quick time through stage 5, having changed to a different type
of tyre.
Wesley Patterson broke a driveshaft on the start line of
stage 5 and dropped a bit of time, and was making up for lost
ground with a good run through stage 6. Uwe Nittel is starting
to set very nice times in his gpN Terry Harryman Lancer, the
German driver much happier over the gravel sections, and indeed
that is really a gravel specification type of car of Terry’s.
Roy White set a fairly good time in the Porsche, Roy saying that
he is starting to get used to the car.
Looking outside this SEAT Lurgan Park rally for just a second
– in the 106 contest in France Ryan Champion now leads after 6
stages from Rory Galligan with Gary Jennings 3rd, no
times yet for Kris Meeke.
Back here to the park…..Mark & Rory Doyle are down
towards the back of the field in their hired Lancer, and the
reason for the balloons on the back bumper is that Mark is
getting married on Wednesday! Class places here in Lurgan
include – Neil Simpson still leading gpN and indeed extending
his lead over Raymond Johnston. Keith White leads cl.2 from
Donnelly with Shaw 3rd. BRIAN & LIZ PATTERSON
