Gwyndaf Evans in the fabulous SEAT WRC
continues to stretch his lead with another fastest time over
stage four. Gwyndaf commenting at the stage finish "we were
over cautious there, dead slow in places", but the Welshman
was 1.3 seconds faster than the fast charging Derek McGarrity.
Derek going really well in his Impreza but he was voicing the
concern of many other drivers, as to how slippy the narrow
tarmac tracks have become here at Lurgan Park.
Kenny McKinstry was at a loss as to a
slightly slower time through stage four, but he is steadily
climbing back up the leaderboard currently lying just outside
the top ten on a total of 6.02.0. Gary White continues on his
giant killing ways in his older Escort Cosworth and was actually
faster than McGarrity through the last stage by 0.1 of a second.
Trevor Moore is another Escort Cosworth
driver moving up the leaderboard and he is now harring Denis
Biggerstaff in his usual 6R4 who holds a scant 0.8 of a second
lead over the Glengormley car dealer. Daniel Doherty is still
struggling to get to grips with his immaculate Impreza WRC,
Daniel admitting to " I just can’t get the car round the
squares, it is a wee bit of everything adding up to a whole lot
of nothing". Peader Hurson has certainly got to grips with
his new Celica, though he thinks he lost a couple of seconds in
stage four with a trip onto the grass.
Tipperary driver Roy White with Motorsport
News Rally’s editor Jim Holder alongside has changed the front
suspension settings on the Porsche and proclaimed himself much
happier with the braking and turn in of the German machine.
Richard Hogg has put his GpN Lancer off the road and into
retirement on stage four, the crew are reportedly uninjured. In
the GpN race Neil Simpson leads the category by just over a
second from Raymond Johnston both in Lancers. Johnston led the
category earlier but was caught without the right tyres for
stage 3. More News Later
