In the Rally of Kent for Formula Rally Super 1600 cars early leader Justin Dale lost his advantage when he had a small overshoot in stage 8 (Hemsted). There are only seconds between Dale, Rowe and the flying Belgian Duval.  Duval is of course in, to a certain degree, alien territory, his performance here today reinforcing his world championship potential.  There are still many stages to go, and the Super 1600's finish the day with 4 asphalt stages back up at Grain. Justin Dale's Peugeot has traditionally been strong on that type of terrain, so the rally is far from over.

Latest retirement from the Super 1600 category is Mats Andersson's Proton. The Swedish driver told us "We have battled very hard during the rally but for some reason the fuel system is pressurising, it is wasting fuel and the car is full of fumes.  Claire my co driver, and me, it is like we have been in the pub! It was getting a little crazy, so we decided to retire".  Latest news on Super 1600's is that Duval has increased his lead to 13s over Martin Rowe, who in turn is 8s ahead of Justin Dale - that is after SS11 Kingswood.

In the Ashford Rally catering for the one make championships, Garry Jennings is pushing very hard now, and put a little daylight between himself and Ryan Champion.  Again, by the nature of the stages anything can happen between now and the tea-time finish, but if Jennings can stay on course he is certainly not going to do his championship hopes much harm.  There is an interesting new crew in the Peugeot Super 106 Cup today - Graham McClintock and his co driver Mark Sheehan - they are newcomers to rallying and their stage times would have them around about 8th after stage 8, but unfortunately they have huge road penalties, as they are clocking in to every stage early! In the Ford Ka category today, Ian Forgan led Darren Snape by 14s after stage 6 with Mark Roper 3rd. In the VW Polo Challenge David Bateson still leads despite clipping a tree. Clive Wheeler was 2nd, Adrian Kermode 3rd. George Phillipedes has just retired with transmission trouble. More news later..BRIAN AND LIZ PATTERSON
