NEWS NO.6 Kent Showground-service-Sat.3.30 UNOFFICIAL L/BOARD FORMULA RALLY SUPER 1600 AFTER SS11-KINGSWOOD 2 1st (9) Francois Duval/JM Fortin (Ford) 53.15 2nd (7) Martin Rowe/Chris Wood (Ford) 53.28 3rd (5) Justin Dale/Andrew Bargery (Peugeot) 53.36 4th (15) Martin Sansom/Phil Wells (Peugeot) 54.47 5th (19) Max McKillen/Nicky Beech (Saxo) 57.02 6th (18) Simon Maugher/Andy Street (Proton) 57.24 On stage 10, the first run at Kingswood, Duval and his Puma stopped the clocks on 5.00...Martin Rowe on 5.06 and Justin Dale on 5.07. On the second run through Kingswood, Duval's time was 4.56, Rowe was 4.58 and Dale was 5.01. That has more or less been the pattern since the Super 1600 cars went into the forests. Martin Rowe commented "Oncce we put on the proper Pirelli gravel tyres, changed to gravel suspension and went into the forests proper, it was a different ball game, everything was fine. I'm disappointed now to be having to go back to tarmac stages like Grain". That's the way it is - the big question mark now is - can Dale pull anything back on the tarmac where his Peugeot seems to go so well. Duval commented here at service "Everything is fine, I change the suspension now for the last stages". Justin Dale observed "There's not much in it. With running at the front and with so little time between the stages I didn't really know the Ford's times until it was too late. That last stage was banzai - I was surprised to drop 5s to Duval. The car was in the bracken half the time, if there had been a tree in there!!!!" Martin Sansom has had the gearbox changed in his 106 and it has cost him some road penalties as well as some stage time. The old box broke the casing and that is what necessitated the change. Martin incurred more problems here at service "in" control when the Peugeot wouldn't start, and he and co driver Phil Wells has to push the car up the grassy incline through regroup control. They made an heroic effort and managed to get it through, it looked extremely hard work to us! In the Kent Forestry Stages Rally for the clubmen drivers, Nicholas Foster led in his Lancer by just over 40s from Bambos in his black world rally Escort. Foster reported 1 major overshoot after a very fast section, but no real trouble. Bambos had his Escort WRC in and out of a few ditches earlier on, but otherwise OK. Danny Fois was 3rd, Paul Hartfield 4th, Vince Bristow 5th and Dick Slaughter 6th. Latest Peugeot Super 106 Cup positions after stage 10 (Bedgebury) - Jennings leads on a time of 50.41. Ryan Champion 19s back on 51.00. Dunbabin 3rd 51.57. Simon Hughes 52.08. More news later..BRIAN AND LIZ PATTERSON
