There is a huge battle on at the front of the Ashford Rally. Garry Jennings and Ryan Champion are swopping seconds on every stage and gradually pulling ahead of even 3rd placed Daniel Dunbabin. Leader Jennings looked decidedly pale when he arried in here to service, and confirmed that he has had a tummy upset since yesterday, but asserted also that he was not letting it trouble him too much. The Ballinamallard farmer commented about the rally so far "Unbelievably slippy in places. We're not absolutely flat out, but it is tricky. We are thinking about the championship and our lead".  Second placed Ryan Champion, who arrived in here to service a little late after swopping tyres front to back before the Lodge Hill Camp to counteract the grassy section, commented "We've had small problems, gear selection is difficult, and we're really bypassing 2nd most of the time. Also we have had a small misfire and clipped a tree at one point as well".

Other stories from the Ashford Rally include...young Simon Hughes who was right up with the leaders after the first couple of stages, but has now dropped back slightly, telling us "There was a corner tightened over a crest and we went straight on into the ditch bending a bottom suspension arm. As well as that we had a slow puncture on the last stage, so we took it a bit easier. We also had some gear linkage trouble earlier".  Adrian McElvaney's Peugeot is suffering from a slipping clutch.

As can be seen above, Guy Wilks is fastest of the Pumas today in the Ashford Rally, but even Guy is having some difficulties - he lost time at the start of the 6th stage when the car wouldn't start because of an electrical/fuel problem. A broken manifold not helping his cause.  David Henderson is back in 12th and he is also having fuel starvation problems.  Shaun Woffinden told us he made a cautious start but is now looking forward to getting into the forests. In the Volkswagen Polo Challenge section of the Ashford, David Bateson led from Adrian Kermode with Wheeler 3rd after 3 stages.
