Trevor Moore and Richard Curry have
driven a faultless rally to take a well deserved victory on this year's
Dogleap Stages Rally. A former winner here, the Glengormley man promised
to lay his ghosts to rest after his early roll last year, and a string
of fastest times from the second stage on proved to be unmatched.
Denis Biggerstaff seemed to be going
nowhere at the half way stage of the rally but the Dramara man, as is so
often the case here at the Dogleap Rally, grabbed his ailing 6R4 but the
scruff of the neck over the final three stages to score an unexpected
second place, which will do his chances in the Northern Ireland
Championship no harm. Kevin O'Kane drove a faultless rally but could do
nothing about Biggerstaff over the final stages loosing out on second
place by only five seconds. Gary White nursed his Escort Cosworth home
over the final stage with a seriously bent strut, a well deserved fourth
place is just reward.
The GpN battle was always looking to go
Richard Hogg's way today, fastest overall on the first stage, the local
man scored a emphatic category win despite some mechanical problems on
the final stage. Mark Woodside took a fine second in the category and
9th overall, heading home Raymond Mason in 10th. Mason takes 3rd in GpN
overcoming a broken brake disk on the last two stages. Keith White and
David Lynas entertained the crowds in their 2wd Escort, 7th overall
despite his heated screen breaking and broken rear suspension on the
final two stages, another giant killing performance. Finton McGrady had
no brakes for stages nine and ten, a broken calliper the cause and he
did well to bring his Escort home in 8th. Well done to Maiden City Motor
Club and in particular COC Michael Carlin on once again putting on a
superb event, this year run under very difficult circumstances. In the
NI Championship, co-ordinator Jim McSherry has confirmed that there will
be an event on 22nd Sept details of which will be confirmed later.
Thanks to all who helped today. Michael Patterson and Zoe Todd
